EDIT: 05/09/2010 Hi all! I’m very happy that so many of you have found this plugin useful. It was something I thought the community could use at the time I released it. To those of you who contributed your observations, ideas, and suggestions, many many thanks. It’s been a neat experience working on something (even if it was tiny) with complete strangers around the world. Going forwards, please enjoy, use, share, and modify, my plugin but know that I am no longer publically maintaining it. I do not have time, really, to address every concern as they arrise.
Your on your own now. Like I said, feel free to use this code in any way you like.
Simple. Tiny. Google. MP3 Player. Enough said?
There are a lot of mp3-playing WordPress plugins available out there. This one aims to keep things simple and classy by employing the Google Audio Player service and an MP3-finding Auto-Embed script.
Demo
Features
- Uses Google’s Audio Player for MP3 content on your WordPress website.
- Options page to configure player width, size, & background color
- Option to Auto-Embed the Google Audio Player, seamlessly replacing all Anchor tags (<a>) with the Google Flash Player.
Download & Install
- Download SSG Google Audio Player WordPress Plugin from the WordPress Plugin Repository
- Unzip the downloaded archive
- Upload whole ssg-google-audio-player folder to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
- Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
Usage
- Visit the SSG Google Audio Player Settings Page to configure your default player
- If Default CSS is checked, the player will be styled as pictured above according to the width and height settings you enter.
- If Auto-Embed is checked, the plugin will automatically replace all anchor tags (<a>) linking to .mp3 files found in the body of your post.
- If Auto-Embed is NOT checked, the plugin will look for the following shortcode and will replace it when found with the Google Audio Player.

[gplayer href="MP3 FILE"]MP3 TITLE[/gplayer]
[...] SSG Google Audio Player WordPress Plugin avulla taas voidaan muuttaa MP3-tiedostojen linkit toistettaviksi postauksessa automaattisesti generoidun flash-soittimen avulla. Edellinen [...]
Sorry for the double post, made a mistake :/
Hi,
Excellent plugin! One little gripe though, in search results of posts with the player, this is also displayed:
swfobject.registerObject(”ssg_gplayer_object-0″, “9.0.0″, “http://beta2.jesperranum.dk/cms/wp-content/plugins/ssg-wordpress-google-audio-player/swfobject/expressInstall.swf”);
Any hints?
Thanks, seborgarsen.
I would guess that you need to check the search.php template file of your WP theme. If you can’t quite figure it out, email a zipped copy of your search.php template file and I’ll see what’s cooking.
I have to admit to something, I am using this plugin:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-custom-fields-search/
in conjunction with Magic Fields, it gives me a much more powerful search. The custom search is the lower one in the sidebar. The top is wp vanilla.
Nothing weird in my search php afaics:
Search Results
<div >
<h2 class="title" id="post-"><a href="" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to ">
<a class="readmore" href="" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to ">Read More »
All standard stuff. So I guess it must be the custom search plugin.
Another detail I would love you to have a look at, http://beta2.jesperranum.dk/cms/songs – only one player is displayed even I would expect one for each post?
Thanks for replying, looking forward to your feedback.
/Seb
hmm, it seems the php was stripped, even though I used the code> tag…
seborgarsen,
I’m going to figure out this comment code display soon.
About this site (http://beta2.jesperranum.dk/cms/song) i’m not really sure whats going on. I would guess there are problems with you templates or html/shortcode syntax.
Hi There!
I am experiancing the same prob as seborgarsen, in search results and under arquives where there is the plugin the following is displayed:
swfobject.registerObject(”ssg_gplayer_object-0″, “9.0.0″, “http://beta2.jesperranum.dk/cms/wp-content/plugins/ssg-wordpress-google-audio-player/swfobject/expressInstall.swf”);
any idea?
Thanks!
Johnny
Hello!
Great plugin!
Just one thing, it´s doesnt working with Firefox 3.5.3 on Mac OSX. nothings appear where it´s suposed to.
Any way to twick it?
Thanks!
J.
Thanks for the positive feedback. I went to Firefox.com and downloaded the newest version of Firefox, only to discover that it is one decimal new than the version you had inquired about.
So I can’t say for certain if its working properly on version 3.5.3 but I can tell you it works plenty fine in Firefox 3.5.4.
So I guess a solution is to upgrade to 3.5.4.
Fair enough?
Hi!,
Well i have just upgraded to the last firefox 3.5.4 on Mac and i am experiencing the same problem. Really strange.
Even more strange is on the pluging page i can see the plugin perfectly and it´s work with firefox.
any idea?
J.
OK, i have found the solution,
Just enable the “Omit swfObject” in the plugin options page and it will work just fine in firefox (Mac version)
Thanks and keep the good work!
J.
I have it working, but no matter what hex code I put in, the color does not change from the drab default. What can I do? I’ve followed the instructions to the Nth degree.
Well, the background color is actually the color behind the player itself. Before the player loads, if you are on a slower connection, you will see whichever color you’ve entered through the plugin control panel.
Its useful to set this if you are concerned with small details.
On most connections, it loads so fast you wont see it. So really, its up to you if you want to use it. I only included that option in the control panel, because google themselves provides it.
But as far as i know, there is no way of changing the color of the google player itself.
I quite dig the drab google grey and chose it for this project specifically because it lacked any styling.
Great plugin! Question: Can you add more than one track per player (perhaps separated by commas after the url)?
Thanks,
John
Thanks… And to answer your question…. I bet there is a way. Any ideas you have are welcomed. I’ll take a spin to see what I can get going.
Great!
Also… are you familiar with the thesis theme via “open-hook”? I am trying to implement this in a sidebar… I thought GSS would convert all mp3′s???
Just wondering,
John
P.S. I tried
MP3 TITLEand also with<a href="blah.mp3"...etcHmmmm.I’m put this on my site, but for some reason the aligment is messed up. Any tips?

I think I found a bug!!
WordPress version: 2.8.5
Player version: 1.2
Issue: You can’t have more then 1 stream per-page. The second one just doesn’t load.
i’m having the same problem — multiple players per page (like on the blogroll homepage), only the first one loads.

This problem should now be fixed. Right, guys?
For some reason when I add a post to the website it will only allow one player to work. For instance, there is a post on my website with the player, but if I post a new song, the player from the last post disappears. The only other plug in I have activated is the Grand Flash Album Gallery. This plug in works fine on my other sites when posting multiple posts, each with its own song.
Any ideas?
Love the player. I have a problem since I installed the latest version. I have multiple displaying on one page (the blog article listings page) and it only renders the first player and not the others like it used to.
I have the same problem with searches turning up swfobject.registerObject garbage. But the real reason I’m leaving this comment is for the same reason as Matt: When I try to embed more than on file, the second player does not display. Strangely, when I embedded a third file, the player showed up for that one. I love the google player and would REALLY appreciate if this bug could be worked out!
Thank you for your work.
Very useful plugin!
Work as intended!
Thanks for your work!
Weird problem (as sort of mentioned above)
The SECOND instance of an embedded player does not show up. The 1st, 3rd, 4th, etc. all show up great.
Why not the second? Can you fix this? I LOVE the Google player, and appreciate your work on this plugin.
Hi, for some reason the player does not show up on my homepage but it does when you click on the individual posts pages. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
I just put this plugin on a website I’m making as a Chanukah present for my Mother in Law – who is a musician. It works great and she is going to be thrilled.
Thanks!
Hi, I’m using your plugin on my wordpress site and it works great. Thank you.
But I recently added lightbox plugin and swf part of audio player is showing over lightbox contents. I changed wmode to opaque in plugin editor but it doesn’t fix the problem.
Do you have any suggestions?
can you send me a link so i can see what’s happening?
Hey Man,
Plugin works perfectly on every current browser on Mac/Win machines, with WP 2.8! So no complaints…however, is it possible to turn-off the auto-play feature? I’d prefer giving my visitors the choice of listening to the audio.
Please advise!
Cheers – Jethro
Strangely stopped working in latest Firefox, but works fine in Chrome 3.0.195.38 and IE8.
Any ideas?

thanks for your help
hey – does anyone know how to make a playlist with this?
All the sudden this morning the plugin isn’t working. It asks you to download flash player upgrade, but I already have the newest version. Any thoughts on what has changed?
Thanks!
Erica
I have been using your plugin quite successfully for some months. Today, however, the player has disappeared from my site and in its place is a “get Adobe flash player icon.” (In Firefox, at least–in Safari it’s just a blank box. I have not viewed it in IE.) I have downloaded the Adobe player, but I still get the icon, even after clearing the cache and reloading the page. Do you have a diagnosis? Many thanks!
update the plugin
Hey,
As of 8pm central time today, the google player doesn’t seem to be working. Others are reporting the problem too on Twitter. Any word? Much thanks.
same problem as the above few comments. now i’ve upgraded to new version but the player isn’t showing on the page.
Same issue here. A quick google search gave me this: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/reader/thread?tid=3b75f44689e46f92&hl=en.
It seems like google has updated their audio player version. Here’s what i did to fix the problem:
1. Open up your ssg_google_audio.php file in the ssg google audio plugin directory
2. find the url path to the google audio player on line 122: “http://www.google.com/reader/ui/3247397568-audio-player.swf?…”
3. Replace the version number (I’m assuming this is the version number) with “3523697345″.
4. Save and upload the file and your players should be fixed!
This is a great plugin I just stumbled across a few weeks ago. I would love to keep it on my site, but worried about having to update the url everytime google makes a change. Any way to edit the plugin to dynamically pull in the google player url into the ssg_google_audio.php file? That would be a great enhancement!
Thanks!
I have the same issue. Was just displaying adobe flash icon and i have now updated the software but now all our previous entries using the player are not working.
If this could be fixed asap that would be great as it a great plugin.
Thanks.
Dave
HeyUGuys.co.uk
Same issue as the above users… I’m seeing a Flash player icon instead of the player in Firefox on a PC.
I upgraded Flash as directed and it’s still not playing. I’ve got about 7 sites doing the same thing.
Hi,
I thought I fixed the recent issue with this plugin by updating the google player url. It fixed it in firefox, but not safari. So I went to my wrodpress installation and did an automatic upgrade. Now it shows in safari but not firefox… Additionally, I see it does not show on this site as well in firefox. Were you able to find a fix for firefox?
Thanks!
Jason
OK. So after some digging I found the issue.
I think there is a problem with your html conditional comments. I fixed this by wrapping the first line and the last (closing) line in .
Without this, firefox seems to be confused as it’s being told to include an object within an object. I’m not much of a flash developer, so I’m not sure what the rules are but this fixed the player in FF. I haven’t tested this in IE yet because I have a mac.
Hope that helps for your next release.
Jason
Hi,
for some reason my player which has been working fine for months, has just disappeared but I don’t think I’ve changed anything that would effect it..
Any ideas? Much appreciated..
It appears that this plugin is not compatible with the AddtoAny Share/Save Plugin after upgrading that plugin. Any help?
Thanks
thanks for your useful plugin, the problem i have now is that after the new update it does not work in firefox,
thanks for your help
